Investigation of novel Reflectarray configurations

The Reflectarray has been proposed as an alternative antenna to a parabolic reflector and a microstrip patch array for high gain applications. Recently published work on Reflectarray antennas has focused on variable length or stub-loaded microstrip patch configurations. This presentation discusses two novel Reflectarray antennas. First, the concept of an aperture-coupled microstrip patch reflectarray antenna is introduced, then a circularly polarised (CP) Reflectarray based on this configuration is described. Experimental results showed that good CP performance could be obtained by using this technique, with the added advantage that a CP feed is not required.
