Experimental Wind Energy Unit in Northern Hungary

The dominant and well-usable wind channel comes from North-West through Hungary and leaving her in the South-East direction. Therefore, the city of Miskolc and its region are out of this significant wind energy flow. 4.5 meters per second of minimal wind speed is needed in any direction for acceptable operation of a wind turbine under 500 kilowatt power. In Sajokaza, 40 kilometers far away from Miskolc there are two new wind turbine-generator units to work by the end of 2007. One unit needs 15times12 meters of ground surface, its height is 30 meters, has 180 blades on some vertical rows of shafts, on the contrary to the conventional horizontal shaft, provides 50 kW power each. The blades are adjusted to the right direction by the control system to increase the utilization ratio to 20.5%.
