Obstetrics and Gynecology Annual

ABSTRACT The Obstetrics and Gynecology Annual has been initiated to present scholarly review articles for senior residents and recently certified specialists. In such a volume the material can be more scholarly and more current than in a text and better organized than in a periodical. On the other hand, varied authors, annual deadlines, disconnected subjects, and eventually the dangers of repetition may create problems. The editor has begun reasonably well for 1972, compiling a series of "critical authoritative reviews."The 16 different reviews range widely from the esoteric to the practical. Longo's superb chapter, "Placental Transfer Mechanisms," and "The Role of the Spiral Arteries in the Pathogenesis of Pre-eclampsia" by Brosens, Robertson, and Dixon are probably more specialized than is necessary for board review but have value for those interested in these areas.
