Research on the control of the generating system in the walking machines

There were growing demands of electricity-generating in the walking machines. Taking the engine power out by a power takeoff arranged between the engine and generator was proved to be a good solution. However, it needed an automatic speed controller (ASC) for regulating the engine and the generator speed. Therefore, designing a sound ASC was a major issue for the generating system in the walking machines under a strict electric standard. In this study, the ASC composed of the engine constant speed controller and the generator constant speed controller was demonstrated. Meanwhile, the pump controlled motor system was arranged between the engine and the generator to provide soft power transmission. In order to solve the control problem of this complex time-varying system, a TS-PID control algorithm, which was recognized not only simple but also smart by many researchers, was proposed. With the ASC integrated with the TS-PID control algorithm in the micro control unit (MCU), the output electricity quality of the walking machine satisfied all the performance indicators of the electric standard, and no functional problems were detected when the generating system worked in real environment.
