Throughout the entire year, you have exemplified initiative, integrity, and assertiveness while assigned to ANT New York. You have gone above and beyond what is expected of a member in your pay grade. Most notable of your accomplishments were the numerous lighthouse tours you scheduled and coordinated for tour groups and school children. During the year, typically during your off duty hours, you coordinated visits to Coney Island Light and Staten Island Light. With no direction from superiors you organized, planned, and executed the tours by ensuring facilities where available and outside experts could come and present information. This made the tours extremely rewarding and enjoyable for the participants. During the summer and fall of 2008 you were directly responsible for the refurbishing of West Bank Lighthouse and Romer Shoal Lighthouse. Each project required extensive research for supplies needed and careful planning to coincide with the units operations. You worked directly with CGC Sturgeon Bay on Romer Shoal Lighthouse and successfully coordinated an extensive project that was completed in just three days. Finally, as a result of Assignment Year 2008, ANT New York lost a DC1 due to a transfer. This resulted in a two month gap between unit DC’s. During this time, you aggressively filled in the role of Master at Arms, Safety Coordinator, HAZMAT Coordinator and became the point of contact for Civil Engineering issues onboard ANT New York and the five tenant cutters home ported in Bayonne, ensuring that all Civil Engineering issues were addressed to SECTOR New York in your monthly report – duties not typically accomplished by an Electrician. This kind of dedication and leadership style is the example for others to follow, leading both by hands-on demonstration and by being an example. You have been a valuable asset for not only the Lighthouse and Structure Department but all for personnel at ANT New York. To be selected by your shipmates is one of the highest honors a person can receive. Your professionalism, enthusiasm and expertise are highly commendable and reflect the Coast Guard’s core values of Honor, Respect, and Devotion to Duty. Congratulations on a job well done! Bravo Zulu.
