THE ROLE OF CAPTIVITY IN AGGREGATE SHARE MODELS OF INTERCITY PASSENGER TRAVEL. IN: RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN TRANSPORT ECONOMICS

The purpose of this paper is to develop and estimate aggregate share models of intercity travel, and the primary focus of the analysis is to comparatively analyze alternative econometric formulations for intercity market shares. Two competing models that are examined in the analysis are the 'linear logit' (LLGT) and 'logit captivity' (LC) model of intercity travel. A second focus of the paper relates to the structural changes in the intercity passenger travel market which have occurred during the past two decades.
