Chapter 4 – How Athletes Travel

This chapter looks at the issue of how athletes travel. It examines the foods they eat, their nutrition challenges while in the road and how they can remain healthy despite the numerous health challenges that they face while on travel. Sporting events draw large crowds, sports figures and teams are super stars and both are potential magnets for politically and economically motivated acts of terror. For this reason and because sporting events today often occur in an age of violence, the chapter explores the stress of travel. The chapter looks at issues of stress and ways to make this travel safer. The chapter also provides both insights and guidance into the world of the travel agent and what team leaders or individual athletes need to know when choosing a travel agent.
