be used as a measuring device to evaluate constructive and manipulative ability of children of nursery school and kindergarten ages. Block constructions were selected as the best approach to the problem; they provide a situation which the child can initiate himself and also one at which he can work alone or with other children. A scale of block constructions would, then, make possible study and investigation into phases of child development which heretofore have been neglected because of the lack of an adequate measuring device which would give objective, quantitative results.
