Modeling of radio wave scattering by trees

The paper presents the results of numerical modeling of the scattering of electromagnetic waves by objects such as a tree. The tree was modeled by a set of axisymmetric elements. We used uniform model scatterers in the form of truncated cones for trunks and branches, in the form of flattened ellipsoids for leaves and elongated ellipsoids for coniferous needles. Calculations of the influence of individual plant elements were carried out by the discrete sources method. The angular dependences of the scattered field components for different polarizations and angles of incidence of radiation are compared with the results of calculations based on the recommendation ITU-R P.833-9.
