Power quality improvement in BLDC motor drive using Bridgeless Modified Cuk converter

This paper presents a power factor correction (PFC) converter based bridgeless modified cuk (M-cuk) converter fed brushless DC (BLDC) motor drive. Here, the modification in conventional bridgeless Cuk converter is accomplished by including the voltage multiplier circuit with reduced switch current stress and semi soft switching mechanism to reduce converter switching losses for a wide range of speed. This proposed bridgeless PFC converter is explored theoretically and the performance parameters such as displacement power factor (PF), distortion PF and total harmonic distortion (THD) are evaluated and compared with the conventional bridgeless cuk configuration. The simulation is performed in the MATLAB/Simulink environment and the validation is done through a Xilinx SPARTAN 6 FPGA processor board.
