Applying 3D virtual reality simulation to gate planning of container terminal yard

In order to aid a large container terminal yard in its gate planning to determine the appropriate carriageway number and the waiting buffers'length,a 3D virtual reality simulation model of the large container terminal yard is created based on Flexsim platform.The architecture,component and process of the(model) are also put forward and all kinds of the situation of waiting lines in different designs are quantified.According to the experimental results,extreme unbalanced workload will emerge at the two checkout gates if the trucks cannot be scheduled perfectly.The pressure at gates can be relieved greatly by implementing intelligent route guidance system and vehicle booking system connecting the customer.The computer(aided) gate planning simulation can give planners and policy makers more decision-making information.
