On the Design of Antenna Location for OSTBC with Distributed Transmit Antennas in a Circular Cell

This paper focus on how to design the location of transmit antennas for Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) space-time coding architecture with distributed transmit antennas. Considering the effects of path loss, correlated shadowing, multipath fading and white Gaussian noise, we first derive the approximate area averaged symbol error rate (AASER) in a circular cell at high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) with M-PSK for orthogonal space-time block coded (OSTBC) systems with distributed transmit antennas. Then, we obtain the transmit antenna location by minimizing approximate AASER. Theoretical and numerical results show that the transmit antenna location depends on the cross-correlation coefficient and the standard deviation of shadow fading, and that the transmit antennas should be symmetrical with respect to the cell center.
