We report a case of severe neonatal infection on day 6 of life due toToxoplasma gondii mimicking septic shock syndrome associated withmultiple organ failure such as acute respiratory distress syndrome withpersistent pulmonary hypertension, neurological distress, thrombocytopeniawith disseminated intravascular coagulopathy and transaminitis. Cliniciansfacing an unexplained life-threatening condition in the first week of lifeshould take into consideration the possibility of neonatal toxoplasmosis.Journal of Perinatology (2010) 30, 231–232; doi:10.1038/jp.2009.184Keywords: toxoplasmosis; neonatal; thrombocytopenia; persistentpulmonary hypertension; septic shock
