FLEXIBLE LV NETWORK INTERFACE FOR DYNAMIC POWER FLOW AND VOLTAGE CONTROL

A future electrification scenario is envisaged where the energy demand from heat and transportation is supplied by electricity. In this scenario the current electricity network must adapt to prepare for high penetration levels of renewable energy sources and new energy applications, all connected to the MV and LV networks. This paper focuses on the associated LV network challenges, including roof-top Photovoltaic panels, Plugin electric vehicles, Heat pumps that could significantly influence the future LV network design and operation. An innovative power electronics based concept called “Flexible LV Network Interface” is proposed. In this article, its capability to cope with the imminent challenge of voltage regulation is discussed. Time domain simulation results, performed in Powerfactory®, are presented and discussed as proof of control concept for “Flexible LV Network Interface”.
