A partial H‐plane waveguide as a new type of compact waveguide

A new type of compact waveguide, called a partial H-plane waveguide, is proposed. Analytic expressions of its proper fields and modes are derived and defined. The cutoff frequencies for each mode are calculated by both analytical and numerical methods. The results show that the dispersion characteristics of the first two dominant modes are the same as those of the conventional rectangular waveguide, while the proposed waveguide's cross section is one-quarter that of the conventional one. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
