The invention relates to a method for noise reduction in 3-D volume data sets of tomographic images, wherein - at least two statistically independent same dimensions, location and situation same 3-D volume data sets (A, B) are generated, - at least two statistically independent 3-D volume data sets (A, B) are each subjected to a 3-D wavelet transform with low-pass filtering and high pass filtering in the three spatial directions of the three-dimensional volume data set and in each case an initial data set using wavelet coefficients is calculated . - correlation coefficient equal wavelet coefficients from the initial data sets are determined, - a new wavelet data set is calculated by weighting the wavelet coefficients of at least one initial data set as a function of the determined correlation coefficients of the wavelet coefficients of the initial data sets and - from the new wavelet record a new 3-D volume data set is transformed back.
