Creating an socio-environmental condition index to assess of urban environmental quality

This paper seeks to assess urban environmental quality integrating variables obtained from remote sensing images of high spatial resolution and census data to compose an index of socio-environmental condition of the city. The principal components analysis was used to integrate the variables obtained from different sources. The results showed the variation of socio-environmental conditions in the city based on three components: crowdedness, socio-economic condition and environmental condition.
