An electrical energy storage system, comprising: - an electrical energy store (400, 500) wherein the electrical energy store (400, 500) a support structure (250, 350, 450) comprises, which support structure (250, 350, 450) comprising: a base body (260, 460), a first support member (270) attached to the base body (260, 460) is mounted and which has a first portion (272) which, starting from a mounting surface of the base body (260, 460) of the base body (260, 460) extending away, wherein the first portion (272) having a first mounting surface to which a first energy storage cell (210) is attachable, a second support member (280), which is away to the base body (260, 460) is mounted and which has a second portion (282) which, starting from the mounting surface of the base body (260, 460) of the base body (260, 460) extends wherein the second portion (282) has a second mounting surface to which a second energy storage cell (220) is attachable, and a first penetration member (276, 376, 476), which is attached to the first carrier member (270) and which is designed such that, when a mechanical contact between the second energy storage cell (220) and the first penetration member (276, 376, 476) a sheath of the second energy storage cell (220) is opened, - a plurality of energy storage cells (210, 220, 311, 321) which individually or in pairs on a respective support member (270, 280) of the support structure (250, 350, 450) are arranged, - and a sensor which is formed such that an opening of an energy storage cell (210, 220, 311, 321) is detectable.
