Landau theory of an electric-field-induced polarized smectic A - ferroelectric smectic C critical point

Abstract A Landau description of the recently observed critical point of the phase transition between the polarized smectic A phase and the ferroelectric smectic C phase is given. It is shown that the overall experimental behavior is well described by a simple Landau model based on a linear polarization - tilt angle - coupling.
