Investigations into MIMO capacity in a mixed LOS/NLOS environment

It is known that MIMO systems in which data streams transmitted by individual antennas are uncorrelated, attain the best performance in Rayleigh environment and their performance worsens in Rician environments when line of sight (LOS) signal propagation is increased. However, this statement relies on the MIMO capacity calculated under the assumption of fixed received power. Maintaining the same received power under NLOS conditions is usually achieved by increasing transmitted power. This paper considers the performance of MIMO systems in mixed LOS/NLOS conditions under the two conditions of fixed transmitted and fixed received power for three MIMO transmission schemes. The aim of these investigations is to clarify various views concerning MIMO system performance under mixed LOS/NLOS conditions.
