Large differences in weight or speed can cause unsafety in traffic. In urban environments, the tram is a potential danger. A conflict between a tram and other traffic oftentimes causes serious injury for the other road user. Separating the tram from other traffic limits the risks involved, but lack of space does not always allow this. An investigation of problems at junctions with a crossing tram led to an inventarisation of causes of unsafety. Design guidelines were provided in order to improve these junctions.
