The first planetary gear set has a first, second, third, fourth and fifth element. The second planetary gear has a first, second, third and fourth element. The first element of the first compound planetary gear set being continuously connected for common rotation with the input member. The first element of the second compound planetary gear set being continuously connected for common rotation with the output member. The second element of the second compound planetary gear set is permanently fixed to the stationary member. None of the elements of the first planetary gear set being continuously connected for common rotation with any of the elements of the second planetary gear set. Seven torque transmitting mechanisms are engageable to establish up to ten forward gears.
