RELOCATION OF ANTI-RESONANCES OF A VIBRATORY SYSTEM BY LOCAL STRUCTURAL CHANGES

This paper describes a method to relocate an anti-resonance of a given frequency response function (FRF) of a multi-degree-of- freedom vibrating system. The method defines the anti-resonances of a FRF with respect to the mass and stiffness properties of the system. It then formulates the relocation of an anti-resonance as an eigen problem in which the eigenvalues are associated with the magnitudes of modification. By relocating an anti-resonance to the frequency of an existing resonance, severe vibration at the resonance can be averted. Worked examples are given to verify the method. The limitations of the method are discussed and further work is suggested.
