Studies of the effect of nanoparticle dopants and blending of different polymers on Physical, Electrical, Optical and Micro structural properties of PVA - a Review

This paper is a review on effect of nanoparticles dopant on Poly vinyl alcohol (PVA), that has been studied intensively due to its several interesting physical properties, which are useful in technical applications in various fields. The important feature of semi crystalline PVA is that the presence of crystalline and amorphous regions and its physical properties, which are resulting from the crystal-amorphous interfacial effects. Many research groups were reported the effect of dopant and blending of different polymers on physical, chemical, electrical, optical and micro structural properties of PVA. The change in the physical properties of PVA due to doping depends on the chemical nature of the doping substance and the ways in which they interact with the host matrix. This type of processing of the polymers is a field of continuing research. Additions of the dopant to the PVA matrix also modify the optical energy band gap, which mainly depend on the type and magnitude of defect concentration. The investigations on the optical absorption near the band edge and the resulting absorption spectra impart important information relating to various processes occurring in polymers. It is important to study microstructure of the polymer and their properties. Hence in this present study the PVA have been the subject of interest for both theoretical and experimental studies, because of the physical and chemical properties needed for specific application may be obtained by adding or doping with some nanodopant which can revolutionize the materials for the present day technology.
