In-orbit performance of the lithium-ion secondary battery for 'REIMEI' satellite

The REIMEI on-board battery consists of lithium-ion pouch cells. Pouch cells are constructed from laminated aluminium films that encase the cell components and prevent the leakage of electrolyte. This study describes the base and orbital performance of the battery, together with the calibration of the ground test data. After the calibration of the ground test data, a good agreement between simulated and orbital data was obtained. Thus, it was concluded that the ground simulations provide a useful tool for estimating the degradation of performance of lithium-ion secondary batteries in orbital satellite conditions.
