The impact of social homogeneity on the Condorcet efficiency of weighted scoring rules

Abstract Computer simulation analysis is used to determine the impact of homogeneity of voters' preferences on the Condorcet efficiency of weighted scoring rules. Intuition suggests that we should expect both increased levels of condorcet efficiency and a decrease in the importance of the specific weights used in weighted scoring rules for high levels of homogeneity with a large number of voters. The degree to which these results are observed is found to vary substantially with the measure of social homogeneity that is used. Borda Rule is found to perform very well, relative to the weighted scoring rule with maximum average Condorcet efficiency, over the range of possible levels of homogeneity.
