Adjustable windows for the design of FIR filters-a tutorial

The use of four adjustable window functions for designing FIR filters is reviewed. The windows under consideration are the Dolph-Chebyshev window, which minimizes the peak sidelobe ripple of the window's frequency response, and the J.F. Kaiser (1975) and T. Saramaki (1989) windows, which nearly minimize the energy in the sidelobes. As a fourth alternative, an adjustable window function is introduced by properly combining the properties of the T. Saramaki and the Dolph-Chebyshev windows. This window generates better FIR filters than the first three adjustable windows.<<ETX>>
