Computer Processing of Electrocardiograms

Electrocardiography is one of the branches of medicine which has benefited considerably from advances in technology in recent years. In the 1950s the patient had to be transported to the electrocardiograph, which was a large immobile piece of apparatus. Nowadays portable recording devices are in common use. To a certain extent the full circle has been turned with the introduction of magnetic-tape recording equipment which in itself is usually larger than the previous generation of equipment, but with the recent availability of cassette tape recorders and integrated circuitry, it will only be a matter of time before this type, of electrocardiograph too becomes relatively portable.
