Product quality coupled with high uniformity of the relevant quality parameters and low cost productions is key requirement in papermaking today and will certainly be even more so in the future. All of them can be influenced in all stages of the papermaking process. For instance, in the forming section STEP DIFFUSOR headboxes provide good formation quality and uniform CD mass distribution. Formation is improved even further by twin wire formers such as the TWIN Former SP as a hybrid former or the TWIN Former G as a gap former. Multi-layer STEP DIFFUSOR headboxes and multi-ply sheet forming systems enable the papermaker to structure his paper or board in the z-direction to best meet his product requirements and minimize his raw material costs. NIPCO rolls in the press section simplify press design, ensure vibration-free operation and provide for a uniform quality profile over a wide range of operation. INTENSA shoe presses increase sheet dry content and strength characteristics, thus saving energy and costly raw materials. In the dryer section the paper web must be guided safely. Here, cross machine shrinkage has to be minimized. At the finishing end, the NipcoMat calender provides a highly uniform sheet surface resulting in excellent printability characteristics, thus partly replacing the off-line supercalender for certain grades. For highest surface quality requirements, however, the NipcoFloat supercalender continues to be a very effective tool.
