Myocardial tuberculoma in a chacma baboon (Papio ursinus Kerr, 1792)

A case of myocardial tuberculosis in a chacma baboon (Papio ursinus Kerr, 1792) is described. Lesions were confined to the heart and adjacent tissues, apparently without lung involvement. Microscopically, the lesion consisted of a diffuse granulomatous reaction with many giant cells and a few acid-fast bacilli. It was postulated that the infection was caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis var. hominis contracted after capture.
