Soft commutated unity power factor boost assisted parallel resonant converter (UPFBPRC)

This paper presents a new topology and a new control strategy to optimize the power factor of a boost assisted parallel resonant high power AC/DC power converter (UPFBPRC) having high efficiency. The static and dynamic characteristics determined by the phase plane method and simulation results obtained using MATLAB are presented for a sample design working at 33 kHz and power level of 2.5 kW. By adjusting the control signals for the switches, one can create a sinusoidal input current of variable amplitude in phase with the supply voltage preserving the soft commutations of the switches.
