The rattle noise of a car door which is impact-induced noise is one of the major noise complaints in these days. Since built-in loudspeaker in the door oscillates largely while input signal has large volume, its large vibration incurs rattle noise unexpectedly. The rattle noise is a kind of impact noise which implies that its frequency distribution spreads in broad frequency range. Passengers can hear the rattle noise without paying attention since it has abundant high frequency components. The rattle noise makes passengers uncomfortable, it needs to be eliminated. In this paper, three case studies of the rattle noise from car door are conducted using notions of impact between two parts: plane to plane, plane to line, and plane to point. Furthermore, an approach is suggested as a feasibility study of quantifying rattle noise by spectrum applied spectral masking effect. The verification concerning the approach was carried out through simplest and practical experiments.
