A Comparative Study of Different Approaches for Finding the Shortest Path on Construction Sites

Abstract Through the course of a construction project, resources are required to constantly travel on the site from one point to another to support construction activities. Path planning for resources is an important part of site logistics and is required for various tasks such as site layout planning or safety planning, but the effect of different approaches on the precision of the paths is still not investigated sufficiently. The objective of this paper is to compare the complexity and precision of direct, grid based, and visibility graph approaches in determining the distance travelled by resources through a number of case examples.
