Design of a 50 MW Pilot Plant for a High Efficiency Steam Cycle

A novel steam cycle promises reasonable efficiency gains compared with conventional cycles. The efficiency gains are achieved with a double water/steam loop, enabling high temperatures of heat input. To check the operability of the cycle, a feasibility study for a 50 MW pilot plant has been carried out. This paper gives a survey of the thermodynamics of the pilot plant followed by results achieved for two of the most crucial components, the steam heater and the high temperature turbine.
