Involuntary movements after taking phenothiazines have been attributed to toxic overdose or to individual idiosyncrasy. The doses of amodiaquine in our cases were large but not large enough to be toxic. The patients' reactions were therefore probably idiosyncratic. The rarity of such cases supports this view.
