A Proposed MPT Demonstration Mission in Space

Solar Power Satellite (SPS) was proposed by Dr. Glaser 50 years ago. Wireless power transmission is the most important technology of SPS. Based on the proposed SPS roadmap of China, some key technologies need to be demonstrated in space before 2030. This paper presents a proposed demonstration mission in space around 2025. The mission includes a main spacecraft and an energy receiving spacecraft. The main spacecraft will transmit 5 kW microwave and the receiving spacecraft will receive about 500 watts electric power. The high power density microwave power transmission technology and the beam precision over 0.01° will be demonstrated.
