Usability and learning: Evaluating the potential of educational software

Abstract The evaluation of the use of educational software must take account of usability as well as learning and, crucially, the integration of tissues concerned with usability and learning. Checklists, a very common approach to the predictive evaluation of educational software, do not take account of this integration. A review of two well known checklists illustrate this. A structured evaluation model known as the Jigsaw Model is described. Empirical evidence is provided to demonstrate that teachers' awareness of integration can be greatly improved by using the model.
