Theoretical Analysis on the Performance of Two Broadcast Schemes in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

Analysis on the performance of broadcast schemes in mobile ad hoc networks is a hot topic in recent years. Most of the related studies are simulation based and take SRB and RE as the dominating metric. But cost efficiency has not been carefully researched. In this paper theoretical models were established to facilitate analysis on the performance of counter based scheme and distance based scheme. A new metric-WCOF (wireless channel occupation frequency), is introduced to measure the average cost per node incurred in a round of broadcast. Two important conclusions were drawn from the analytical results. First, higher SRB can not always lead to better cost efficiency. Second, without considering RE, SRB or WCOF based evaluations are meaningless
