Miniature antenna for micro SD card

This paper presents the design of a miniature antenna working in the ISM band at 2.4 GHz to be integrated in a micro SD card. This antenna is intended to provide wireless connectivity between a Smartphone having a micro SD card slot and medical devices, for therapeutic, sensing or telemetry applications. Antenna design and characterization are presented. The effect of the feeding cable in antenna measurement is discussed. Moreover the influence of antenna location in the Smartphone is investigated, by considering a simplified Smartphone model. A reconfigurable version of the antenna, integrating a in the radiating structure, is also investigated to counteract the antenna de-tuning due to the microSD integration in the Smartphone.
