Applications in Wind Power

This chapter addresses the application of ZSI/qZSI in a wind power system, including their typical configurations, parameters design, maximum power point tracking (MPPT), and also system control methods. It shows the traditional permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) based wind power generation system (WPGS) using a dc-dc boost converter-based two-stage inverter. The control system mainly contains shoot-through duty cycle control, the PWM of qZSI, and the dc-link and AC-output voltage control. To capture the maximum wind energy so as to obtain optimum dc input voltage of qZSI, the widely used hill-climbing algorithm is adopted to realize MPPT control. The system control method, taking into account wind turbine MPPT, constant dc-link voltage, and grid-side synchronization, was presented for the qZSI wind power system. Simulation results were illustrated and compared when using qZSI and a traditional dc-dc boost converter based two-stage inverter, demonstrating the wide dc-link voltage handling capability of the ZSI/qZSI in single-stage power conversion topology.
