Die Bedeutung von Johannes P. Letzmanns "Richtlinien zur Erforschung von Tromben, Tornados, Wasserhosen und Kleintromben" für die heutige Tornadoforschung

Johannes Letzmann's recently rediscovered guidelines for observation and climatological recording of tornadoes written in German in 1937 are evaluated within the context of contemporary tornado research. The results indicate that combined with today's tornado intensity scales and an interchangeable data record format it is possible to obtain a full statistical overview of tornado risk for Central Europe. This also allows for a regionalization of the tornado risk in these countries and would be most desirable from an economical standpoint.
