The authors demonstrate error free operation of a reconfigurable 4/spl times/10 Gbit/s WDM DC-ROAD (Dispersion Compensated-Reconfigurable Optical Add Drop) multiplexer using high rejection, low loss, 10 cm long step chirped gratings in a network comprising 50 km spans of non dispersion shifted fibre.
