Voltage and reactive power control in power system

The electric power system entails enough reactive power to meet the needs of consumers and the network. To satisfy numerous node voltages, reactive power should be balanced locally and hierarchically. The voltage and reactive power control in a regional power grid is to control the substations under it, qualify the voltage of the grid, realize local balancing of reactive power and reduce network losses. This paper analyzes the main devices for substation voltage and reactive power control, such as on-load voltage-regulating transformers, shunt capacitors and shunt reactors. The principle, requirements and realization means of substation voltage and reactive power control are expounded as well.
