A fiberoptic micro-tip pressure transducer for medical applications☆

Abstract By using fiberoptics, it is possible to circumvent the serious packaging problems associated with conventional electric micro-tip pressure transducers for in vivo measurements in the human body. We have developed a practical fiberoptic micro-tip pressure transducer, named Fiber-Tip, which has been tested successfully in several clinical applications. Compared to electric micro-tip transducers, Fiber-Tip offers superior mechanical strength, galvanic insulation and better stability when measuring in body liquids.
