Rapid signal transmission by populations of spiking neurons

The dynamics of a homogeneous population of spiking neurons are analyzed. It is shown that signal transmission can be rapid. The cut-off frequency of signal transmission depends on the noise level and on synaptic time constants rather than on the membrane time constant. In the low noise limit, transients of the population activity can be immediate.
