Abstract This paper outlines the strategies employed by one Australian university to systematic quality improvement including: development of a quality management plan, devolution of responsibility for quality advancement to faculties and schools, and improving documentation of quality assurance procedures and excellent outcomes. The university's quality management plan structure is designed to support a learning organisation committed to continuous quality improvement. Definitions of a learning organisation emphasise an organisation skilled at acquiring new knowledge, transferring this new knowledge across the organisation and modifying the way it operates. A quality resource framework is discussed under the following headings: leadership positions to support quality management; committees and discussion forums, publications; quality management plans; evaluation, monitoring and development; benchmarking and networking. Barriers to implementation are explored and strategies proposed to overcome them. Aven...
