Patient Education and Counseling

One of the most exciting aspects about health care today is the variety of advancements in communication science, education, and other fields relevant to decision making and quality of care. This special issue of PEC contains papers based on presentations at the International Conference on Communication and Healthcare that was held in Miami, Florida, USA. The International Conference is an annual collaboration of the European Association for Communication in Healthcare (EACH) and the American Academy on Communication in Healthcare (AACH). The selection of papers is based on feedback from participants who nominated the best works of the conference and on the highest ratings of anonymous peer reviewers of the submitted abstracts. In total 46 presenters were invited to submit a manuscript, following 24 send their manuscript, of which one was rejected and one was withdraw. The diversity of papers in this special issue reflects the variety of advances in our fields. Some papers are original scientific studies and educational projects. Also included are a report about a workshop and an interest group that describe their work. The conference’s three keynote addresses by Drs. Michael Leonard, Jozien Bensing, and William Branch are represented in written form.
