Integrating of utility distribution system into a refinery plant generation/distribution network at Unocal Los Angeles refinery

A discussion is presented of the installation of a 46 MW cogeneration plant and the conversion of a 34.5 kV utility distribution system to a refinery distribution system with an interconnection to the utility to export or import electrical power. The intended modifications for the conversion are described. The integration of a power cogeneration plant is discussed, covering gas turbine, generator, and exciter selection and the distributed control system used. The comprehensive system study, consisting of load flows, short circuit, and stability computer runs, is described. The system improvements (safety, reliability, flexibility, and operation) are discussed. >
