Computer-Supported Participation in Urban Planning from the viewpoint of “ Communicative Planning Theory ”

New impulses from theoretical discussions on urban planning strengthen the role of participation in urban planning. Combining this development with the options computerand network-based technologies offer promises to improve the citizens' satisfaction with the results of planning procedures. We summarise the new theoretical approaches and discuss first examples and further ideas to realise them using mediation systems based on the IBIS (Issue-based Information System) approach. We advocate the development of new planning procedures combining traditional approaches with network-based participation support for urban planning.
