Analysis of link traffic load-based channel assignment for multi-radio Mesh Network

The capacity of Wireless Mesh Networks can be substantially increased by equipping each node with multi-radio which allows for simultaneous transmissions, but the interference between those transmission links is still high without appropriate channel assignment due to the limited nonoverlapping channels, further optimization is needed to carefully assign channels for radios. In this paper, we formulate a centralized channel allocation optimization framework which considers the traffic load of each link to effectively reducing the overall network interference and increase network throughput. The genetic algorithm (GA) is provided to approximately attaining the optimal solution to the optimization problem under our proposed framework. Simulation results are given to show that our scheme can improve the overall network performance considerably.
